How to Meditate?

Never aim the meditation towards anything. Let the meditation lead you; you don't try to lead the meditation in some direction that you want. The idea of meditation is to go to a space you don't know, to enter a dimension that is not in your experience, understanding or perception. Simply seek to meditate. Whatever happens happens.

The Best times to meditate is Brahma Kaalam which is 4 AM to before Sunrise, Similarly 1 hr before Sunset and after 1 hr. The most important thing is, you shouldn't be mentally or physically stressed because, you may doze off in meditation which is very dangerous. The meditator should be as calm and peaceful as possible before meditation. This is a life long practice which will be eventually guided by Vishnu. Here are some guidelines based on my experiences.

 1. Choose a flat surface, towards a wall where you can keep your spine straight. If you can keep your spine straight for extended period of time, wall is not needed.

2. Create a darkest environment. The pineal gland works best in the absolute darkness.

3. In the beginning you can try small amounts of time like 5 to 15 min. Use OM audio which chants 108 times and with it you chant the mantra.

4. Focus on the front lob in between eye brows. Control the breath. The longer the breaths, the better the meditation is. After sometime, the body naturally follows the rhythm when you are not aware of the body and self.

5. When you are trying to reach higher dimensions or frequencies, your body may experience jerks or shaking. Don't worry it is common. You may not experience anything at all. Each person's experience is different. Please be patient. Your strongest WILL will get you there.

6. You may experience many things, don't try to understand it. Just download the information. Your conscience will understand it.

7. Dont get stuck in the Meditation. Means when the time becomes irrelevant, your mind is stuck in higher dimensions. You need to know when to get out. If you feel you are stuck, wiggle out or ask your friends or family members to wake you up slowly or time a loud music to break your meditation.

8. Follow your instincts for meditation. May eternal universe bless you with knowledge that you are seeking.

To experience Absolute Calm, Yoga is the first step. Means make your body fit.

Eat Natural Food

This is very important step. Grow, cook and eat food as much as you can in a natural way. Try to avoid any kind of impurities that will make you addicted to the taste. Yoga and good food makes your body fit.

Adi shankara says when you focus all your effort on atma or soul, you will sense the purity. As you progress, you are part of this purity. What is pure or untainted? Bhagavath Geetha gives the best example. A soul cant cut into pieces, burn, wet, effected by nature. We cant see soul, so it is theory for us. The best visible example is AGNI or FIRE. On earth and beyond, fire is pure, it cant be tainted. As I keep repeating, the agni or eternal fire lit by the god is so pure, first time you perceive the purity or Sudham. Shankara says space is pure because it holds the creation.

In meditation whatever you sense or perceive beyond senes, should be contemplated. What is this contemplation? Today's truth is tomorrows ignorance. Today's ignorance is tomorrows truth. You are trapped in this classical whirlpool of mother prakrithi. Going round and round. Every circle, learn, contemplate, perceive the truth. Again and again...  What is Vidya and Avidya?

Read all scriptures, preachings and anybody's opinion. What is said in may be truth. Krishna says true yogis always indulges in good contemplation with like minded people to progress spiritually. Everyone should assert their truth, this way all yogis contemplating on ME or Krishna, experience parama aanandam. Geetha says wisdom burnt by the eternal fire is pure.

Let the knower discriminate the Knowledge and the Ignorance, the straight open levels and the crooked that shut in mortals; O God, for the riches, for the right birth of the Son, lavish on us the finite and guard the Infinite.

In seeker's journey knowledge or gyanam and ignorance or avidya are two things, I always struggle with, Which is what? Based on My knowledge, it may look like ignorance, for someone that is the truth. Example worshipping cow, drinking its urine and believing it can cure diseases etc is ignorance but for many that is the truth. We humans always think from our own earthly prospective. Our Ignorance is, I do 1, 2 , 3, 4 as krishna says now I am eligible for many divine riches. Well God's thinking no one knows.

Gods are laboring with you inside. They want you to progress in meditation, reach the highest possible levels. When information is presented to you, let the knower/receiver discriminate whether it is knowledge or ignorance. We have lot of ignorance regarding divinity and Hindu religion. That is why we cant agree with each other. Remember the knowledge that you gain is only for you. God always permits to share and help others.

Each human being, it is his/her birth right to see or realize god. Vamadeva prays O God please bless us with divine riches of this finite universe and you guard the infinite which is beyond my comprehension.

Agasthya

Rig Veda 1. 170 Indra

It is not now, nor is It tomorrow; who knoweth that which is Supreme and Wonderful? It has motion and action in the consciousness of another, but when It is approached by the thought, It vanishes.

We have so many opinions, scriptures, experiences that was preached or propagated to us. We are already biased what is going to happen. Thousands of people or Gurus will give you thousands of opinions about meditation and experiences.  In our mind we imagine that great rishis or gurus as role models and try to achieve it. The internal journey makes your life miserable. Oneway to notice the progress is, the seeker is slowly being detached from earthly life. This may create imbalance in family and work life. Spirituality slowly will push you away from materialistic life.

The internal journey is complicated. All you tried to do is withdraw senses and quieten the mind. In deep meditation, you will be aware of yourself and then for long time not. Out of blue suddenly things will appear and information is planted in your mind. It is like a dream. If I ask you to explain, you remember vividly and the dream is hazy, not clear. When things do appear, I tried to concentrate and try to see clearly. The moment I try, It disappears.

Agasthya a great Rishi clearly explains this experience. He says he dont know what it is but it is supreme and wonderful. It is some kind of conscience in motion. when you try to focus and perceive, it disappears. Now you are in dilemma , what you have experienced is real or illusion or projection of mind. You experience many things which are inexplicable. Gurus will dismiss it as non sense. Like life, every seekers journey is different and in deeper meditation, each experiences are different.

You have the knowledge in you which will guide you. I experience many unbelievable things. Always contemplate to perceive it. Now I am trying to perceive beyond mind and senses. I dot know how to do it.

To start any process or by God's will, it takes time and practice. We were trained from child to pray to God so that he guides us. The rituals, bhakthi, daily work or karma , helping others etc are good to keep a person well balanced in life. To progress spiritually, the curiosity is very important. Many start praying to the invisible God and not Knowing the inner meanings and purpose of it. It is essential to know because once understood, you will follow it for fructification.  In spirituality, first thing we should understand and connect with Earth, Sun, Moon and planets. Vedas provide great resources for this, but it is toughest to understand. So Bhakthi and Dhyanam is the best, start with understanding Bhagavath Geetha.

I dont know how I made the connection with this invisible god. This phenomenon is guiding me every step. Most of my meditation experiences are related to hinduism. When I experience a Truth or symbol, not sure what I have seen is real or hallucination or projection of my mind. This is  when Hindu scriptures comes to my rescue. The rishis or yogis would have experienced the same and when I read it, it confirms me the truth. Many asks me why I need always a proof, why cant I accept it as it is. Well to make sure I am not imagining.

Inner meanings of many symbols, I didnt understand. Now I know what it means for few. In recent deep meditation Amritha Kalash appeared beautifully as used in Hindu rituals. Till then I was assuming it as silly ritual to make people attend pooja and concentrate on God. Looks like my internal energies stirring and generating this special phenomenon. Based on the samudra manathan story, I have to accept it as amritham being born in me. That is all I know for now.

I am skeptical in whatever I am learning and experiencing. So far my experiences and Sadhana says, whatever great Rishis experienced, I am experiencing it too.

There are many ways to prepare for meditation. If the goal is to realize self or God, then journey is very treacherous. If the goal is to simply have peace, and control senses for daily life rituals, then a meditation, yoga, bhakthi can be practiced as needed. What I am interested is to reach ultimate level of merging with God. All I know as of now is that it is almost impossible to achieve without extraordinary effort and also I dont know what it is.

Whatever your goal is, meditation is the best technique for spiritual journey. Dont worry about many types of meditation and its techniques. Dont worry about chakras, energies, opening kundalini etc.! All we need is simple commitment to start Bhakthi and time for meditation. Your house is the best. Find a place where no one will bother you for few minutes. Play simple OM repetition or any mantra you like at very low volume.

Make a small cushion as your seat, so that the body that is touching the floor is not making your legs numb. Sit straight meaning spine, chin and shoulders straight. The sitting posture should be relaxed and straight and the blood should flow freely all over the body, so that no cramps. No stiffness anywhere in the body. The ambience should be conducive to focus.

Simply sit, focus. Dont worry about anything like trying to silence the mind, focusing between eyebrows etc Slowly the knowledge inside you will guide for better mediation. As you progress, the nature, Earth, Sun and moon will guide you.

Vishnu will provide Dharshan.
