Seeker's Expressions

Rama Taraka Mantram

How could one name the One who is indescribable and whose names are infinite? Rama Nama is called ‘Taraka mantra’ as it is the very cure for the disease of samsara. It is derived from the roots of the two great mantras, the Asktakshara, ‘Om Namo Narayanaya’ and the Panchakshara, ‘Nama Sivaya.’ The Stala Purana of Kasi states that Siva whispers the Rama Mantra in the ears of all those who breathe their last in this sacred place.

Taraka, usually derived from Sanskrit tāraka (तारक, "crossing; ferryman; star; eye")

In this song Taraka means Rama is the ferryman who can help the seeker cross over the life of samsara and no more life cycles of birth and death.

Bhashyam or Commentry

Chanting Rama’s name is the secret for salvation from cycles of samsara. Ramadasu exclaims the power of the name and sings, by knowing the Rama taraka, I am the most blessed man. By chanting his name I will become immortal.

If anyone says any name name other than Rama, don’t fall into their world of Maya. No need to visit Tirumala temple 108 times, No need to take bath in all holy rivers and daily, every second keep chanting Rama’s name.

In all my janmamas, I see only Nararyana in the form of you. I heard paramata’s stories in all forms and incarnations. Of all these I experiences, I declare with confidence that I am chanting Rama mantram, this is my last life on earth and also in divine realms.

I attained divine calmness, with burning desire and goal of reaching you, provided be eternal peace and bliss. I am following divine dharmam and knew this secret and traveling towards Rama Dasu or slave of Rama’s abode or Vaikuntam.

In this keerthana simply, beautifully Ramadasu expressed his desire, quest, firm belief that he will be an immortal and his abode is Vaikuntam.

Pallavi:
Your talk has become gold, Oh Kodandapani (Rama with a bow in hand). Why don’t you talk when I call you? I think of your name even in my dreams. Oh my dear father, I can never forget you.

Charanam:
When a squirrel rolled in the sand to help you in a humble way, you kindly protected it. I have immense faith in you only.

Oh my father I fondly believed that you earned fame by transforming a stone into Ahalya compassionately.

Oh my father, why are you not compassionate? I’ve been begging repeatedly. What am I after all!

You possess the title ‘protector of devotees’. I pray for your mercy. Please bless Bhadrachala Ramadasu and protect.

Bhashyam or commentary:

Ramadasu was in such a Bhakti yoga state not bhkathi bhavam, he sees Rama everywhere and in everything. To the idol he converses like a being in his house. He was writing, singing, praying and remembering all the time but Rama don’t even care. He is asking why are you not conversing with me, dont you haven even smallest compassion on me.Similarly I also see Vishnu everywhere and in everything. It is his fundamentals of creation. That is how I know he is pervaded everywhere.

Bhakthi bhavam is common feeling towards Vishnu and extreme of that is Bhakthi yoga which was explained in Bhagavath Geetha.

Magic of Blackness

Krishna Murari Mukunda Bhakrhavastala

Pervaded everywhere as cosmic blackness

In painters imagination you are blue skinned

Bhakthas fondly call you Neelamegha Shyama

Yashodha called you kishan Kannaiya

What is the purpose of trapping me?

In the world of Maya among mortals

Is it another opportunity to realize you?

My simple conscience is not comprehending

Your preachings and guidance are my hope

Swamy Murali dhara Nanda Gopala

You mesmerize bhaktha’s with your flute

Makes us bask in the glory of divine aanandam

In that bliss we keep chanting your names

Thousands of times Vishnum Jishnum Maha Vishnum

In yoga nidra you are enjoying my chants

What a blessings for me to mesmerize you

My soul is filled with out of bounds of joy

Longing for the eternal time with you

Forever forever in eternity of sat chit aanandam

Maha Vishnu Vaikuntam Maha Prabho

Oh Namo Namo Maha Vishnu

My dearest father in this universe

There is no second or day that I don’t pray

Every time I chant your name Namo

Narayana,I am filled with Aanandam or bliss

My soul is the blessed one to recognize you

Out of crores of bhakthas, your blessings

For me is the biggest boon of this janamam

When stretched your hand for friendship

I saw the Krishna avataram in you

Ohh Krishna Krishna Krishna

How can I express my self that long for you

I see you every where, can’t comprehend

You are behind veil of darkness with smiles

Still don’t want to reveal true self of you

In the avatar of Krishna, Geetha was born

Performed leelas and enlightened yogis

Displayed Viswaroopam to luckiest Arjuna

I bear you in my heart, body and mind

Without you I can’t imagine my soul’s quest

My soul long for your friendship in Vaikuntam… I feel it is still close and far away…

In Bhakthi Bhavam… Praying to Maha Vishnu

Om purushothama Pundarikakshaa

Present me a boon to experience your

Opulences, omniscient, Omni presence

Nature of your creation and manifestations

Swamy I am praying with utmost devotion

Om namo venkatesa tirumalesa edukondala vaada

It is my blessing to climb the seven realms

Govind Gopala Bhathavastala Hari

Chanting your name easily cross hurdles

To attain you swamy saranu saranu

Om namo Lakshmi Narayana hrishikesa

My soul sees and experiencing aanandam

Of praying, remembering and longing for your companionship in Vaikuntam

Swamy show mercy on your bhaktha

Present me divya drishti to experience your Viswaroopam.
