Rudra means shiva. Aksha means tears. Rudraksha means tears of shiva. This is a tree which grows in high altitude and mostly seen in Himalayas, Burma, Thailand and Indonesia. Why this is so sacred for Hindus?
If you look at a rudraksha seed, you can see nature it is made up of tetrahedron or triangle. The tetrahedron is the basic building blocks of the Universe. When nature make this sacred platonic solid, it creates wonders and attracts the divine energy. The tree makes rudraksha from 1 Mukhi or face or tetrahedron which is very rare to all the way to 18 mukhis in nature. This represents the 18 dimensional conscience levels of this entire cosmos beyond our Universe.
You need to be really careful in wearing or using the rudraksha, there is lot of dimensional spiritual science behind it. Yogic intent attracts divine energy, which many of us are not capable of absorbing and managing it. Say 5 or Pancha Mukhi rudraksha is good for being a family man and pursuing spiritual life.
360/108=3.333333... is the radiance of star/Sun which is the main energy source for our existence. A rudraksha mala of 108 beads with tetrahedrons represents the sun. By wearing this mala or using it as prayer beads, using nature you are trying to connect to the creator. If it is 15 tetrahedron rudraksha it is vishnu, 16 shiva, 17 Parvathi and 18 is the cosmic conscience. You are constantly submitting yourself to the creator using these beads.
